Hi, I’m Angie!

As the current Chair of the Learning Community Coordinating Council, it is my great joy to represent Millard, Gretna, and Elkhorn.

My husband and I live in southwest Millard where our daughter attends Wheeler Elementary. I am the Executive Director of a early childhood literacy nonprofit and I see every day the power of educational opportunities to uplift our communities.

But let’s address the question you’re likely thinking — what *is* the Learning Community? What exactly does it do? The Learning Community’s mission is to improve educational outcomes for all and especially children in poverty. Through initiatives like Jumpstart to Kindergarten in Elkhorn to summer reading programs in Millard, three-year mentoring and coaching for new teachers in Gretna, and so much more, the Learning Community focuses on narrowing the achievement gap.

My Priorities

Third-Grade Reading Proficiency

Reading proficiency at third-grade is critical, as children move from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” Third-grade reading proficiency is related to high school graduation rates, lifetime earnings, and even health outcomes.

Data-Driven Programs

Ask anyone who knows me – I love a comprehensive spreadsheet and program evaluation. Investing in programs with proven outcomes is a central focus for me.

Fiscal Responsibility

Every dollar should work towards improving educational outcomes in a responsible, sustainable manner. Under my leadership, the Learning Community has not raised its levy.

I grew up in western Nebraska, moving to Omaha in 1999 to attend Creighton University. After graduation, I then attended graduate school, earning my degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. And what does a former competitive debater do? Law school, of course. I graduated from Creighton School of Law in 2008. I found my calling in the nonprofit sector, eventually leading to my current position as Executive Director of DIBS for Kids. I am driven by supporting education and supporting families, working to make our communities better for all!
